Universal Catalytic Converter

Universal Catalytic Converter Description

In 1970, the Clean Air Act required automakers to reduce tailpipe emissions produced by their vehicles. To meet car emissions regulations, the catalytic converter, sometimes called a “converter” or simply “cat,” has played an essential role. With the Catalytic Converter, the harmful pollutants are transformed into less harmful emissions using chemical processes.

The first catalytic converters were two-way designs, with exhaust gases flowing through a substrate in which they met heavy metals (such as platinum and palladium) and caused chemical reactions. The two-way catalytic converter is not very efficient in reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx), resulting in the development of the three-way plus air converter. Besides the two oxidation catalysts, they add a third chemical technique: a reduction catalyst that converts NOx into N2 (nitrogen) and O2 (oxygen). Since the early 1980’s when the vehicles were built, manufacturers have used the three-way catalytic converter that stores and releases oxygen as needed.

One type of Catalytic converter is the “Universal Catalytic Converter” which is installed in the exhaust system to reduce the pollution level produced by the vehicle and the other is a direct fit catalytic converter. The material used in the exhaust system allows chemicals to react chemically to change pollutants such as carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide and water before they are released into the atmosphere. In recent years, the installation becomes compulsory in an exhaust systems with both state and national governments.

Moreover, as its name implies, the universal catalytic converter is designed to fit on any vehicle as long as the inlet and outlet tubes on the converter and exhaust system are of the same size, and if it is the correct converter for the particular vehicle and state.

This type of Catalytic Converter is ideal for buyers who are looking for a high-flow performance product giving value at a fair price. It is recommended as a cost-effective product that ensures it last for a long period. If you compare the cost of the Catalytic Converter with those available at local mechanic shops, it’s very affordable. However, when you are thinking of purchasing, make sure the specifications are compatible with your car.

The Universal catalytic converter can be installed at a minimum time level and last longer. These types of products are generally characterized by ease of installation, durability, long-term use, and price. Despite the one-year warranty offered on the product, the products pass all of the criteria and are very popular among users.

However, it does not apply to California-registered vehicles. Even though it will work in cars not registered in the state of California, but meet California requirements. Additionally, buyers should verify whether the universal catalyst converter they wish to purchase will fit with their car.
